Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi got a big relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday. The High Court has stayed the two-year sentence awarded by the trial court of Patiala in the human trafficking case. The Patiala court had sentenced him to two years' imprisonment in the 2003 case.The appeal filed by Daler Mehndi in High Court against the sentence pronounced by the lower court has been accepted. Daler Mehndi was sentenced to two years in prison by the Patiala Court on 16 March 2018. After this, Daler Mehndi challenged the appeal by filing an appeal before the Additional Sessions Judge, Patiala. The hearing on this petition took nearly four years. From here too the Punjabi singer did not get relief. The court upheld the sentence.Answer was also sought from the state governmentAfter this, Daler Mehndi challenged it by filing a revision petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The Punjabi singer demanded from the High Court that his sentence should be stayed till the appeal against the sentence is pending. After this, the High Court had issued a notice to the state government and sought its response. After the reply received from the state government, the matter was heard today and the High Court ordered a stay on the sentence.
