Modi Government: The Modi government on Monday announced the Rs 1,435 crore PAN 2.0 project. The project aims to make the Permanent Account Number (PAN) a common business identifier for all digital systems of government agencies. This initiative is an important step towards accelerating India's Digital India campaign and simplifying business processes.The project was approved in a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is an e-governance project prepared by the Income Tax Department, which will work towards making services better, faster and accessible for taxpayers.PAN 2.0 Project: What is special?The main objective of the PAN 2.0 project is to upgrade technology-based services for taxpayers.Digital Identifier: This project will enable PAN to be used as a common identifier in the digital systems of government agencies.Business Process Improvement: The processes of PAN / TAN services and taxpayer registration will be redesigned, making the services more fast and accurate.Technological integration: Upgrading the existing PAN/TAN 1.0 framework, this new system will also integrate the PAN verification service.Currently, 78 crore PANs have been issued in the country, out of which 98% PANs are at the individual level. This project will help in making these figures more effective.Big step towards Digital IndiaUnder this project, PAN will be made widely useful. According to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, PAN 2.0 will enable "technology driven transformation in taxpayer registration service". This initiative is in line with the vision of Digital India, which aims to provide quick and quality services to citizens and merchants.Other important announcementsApart from this, the Union Cabinet has also approved the continuation of Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) till March 31, 2028.Budget: A budget of Rs 2,750 crore has been allocated for AIM 2.0.Expanded scope: AIM 2.0 will further strengthen the existing achievements of Atal Tinkering Labs and Atal Incubation Centers.Change in approach: The second phase of AIM is set to take the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem to new heights.
