MCD Election: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has questioned the intention of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal while welcoming the approval of the proposal for the election of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and members of the Standing Committee in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on February 22. Welcoming the fixing of February 22 as the date for the election of mayor, deputy mayor and members of the standing committee, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that he hopes that the Aam Aadmi Party will allow all these three elections to be held on February 22.

'He does not want to allow the standing committee to be formed'

Kapoor said that it is our information that the Aam Aadmi Party will disrupt the proceedings of the House after the mayoral election, because fearing defeat, they do not want to allow the standing committee to be formed. The BJP spokesperson said that if the Aam Aadmi Party respects the Supreme Court, Chief Minister Kejriwal should give an assurance that his party will allow the process of formation of the permanent committee to begin on February 22.

'Right to vote for alderman in standing committee election'

He further said that Kejriwal should assure that the new mayor will issue notification for the formation of 12 regional committees of the corporation on the same day after getting six members elected from the house. Along with this, the Aam Aadmi Party should clarify before the meeting that like the last 2017-22 house system, the alderman will still have the right to vote in the standing committee elections from regional committees.

Mayor election date fixed in less than 24 hours

Please tell that the election of MCD mayor will be held on February 22. Following the order of the Supreme Court, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena fixed the date of the mayoral election on Saturday in less than 24 hours. On Saturday, the Urban Development Department of the Delhi Government sent the file to the LG's office for holding elections, and within a few hours, the LG approved the recommendation of the Delhi Government. After this, election notification was also issued by MCD.
