British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is visiting India on 21 April. It has been officially announced. Johnson's visit will start from the Gujarat city of Ahmedabad and will then meet Prime Minister Modi in Delhi on April 22. Johnson's visit comes after the successful completion of four of the 26 chapters in the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Johnson will discuss a timeline for the completion of the process. It was initially planned to be completed this year. Johnson is expected to announce new science, health and technology projects as well as major investments in key industries in India.

For the first time a British PM will visit Gujarat

This will be the first time that a British prime minister will visit Gujarat, India's fifth largest state and home to almost half of the British-Indian population in the UK. At the same time, it is expected that during his Gujarat visit, he can make some big announcement.

Will meet PM Modi on April 22

After his Gujarat visit, British PM Johnson will travel to New Delhi on April 22 to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With PM Modi, he will hold in-depth talks on India's strategic defence, diplomatic and economic partnership, which aims to strengthen our close partnership and advance security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.

According to the British government, Johnson will use the upcoming visit to India to progress talks on a free trade agreement that is expected to boost bilateral trade by £28 billion (USD 36.5 billion) annually by 2035.
