India-China Relation: China has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'positive' statement on India-China relations, in which he gave priority to dialogue rather than differences. China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, reacting to Prime Minister Modi's remarks during a conversation with American podcaster Lex Friedman in a press conference, called it a positive sign for bilateral relations.India-China: Mutual understanding and cooperationMao Ning said that the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia in October provided strategic guidance for the improvement and development of bilateral relations. He also mentioned that the two countries have seriously implemented important consensuses and achieved positive results by strengthening dialogue and exchange.The Chinese spokesperson emphasized that in the history of mutual relations of more than 2000 years, the two countries have maintained friendly exchanges. He said that India and China have learned from each other while contributing to civilizational achievements and human progress. Apart from this, cooperation between the two countries can also play an important role at the global level.The future of dialogue and cooperationMao Ning said that maintaining stable relations between India and China serves the fundamental interests of more than 2.8 billion people. He reiterated the statement of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that both countries should contribute to each other's success. He described it as the need for coordination of 'elephant' (India) and 'dragon' (China), calling it the "only right choice" for both countries.He also said that China will take the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations as an opportunity and work together with India to stabilize and strengthen bilateral relations.Dialogue, not differences, is the priorityPrime Minister Modi said in his podcast that the situation on the India-China border has normalized after his recent talks with President Xi Jinping to reduce tensions arising from the clashes in eastern Ladakh in 2020. He said differences between neighbours are natural but his aim is to ensure that differences do not turn into disputes.Modi also highlighted that India and China share ancient cultural ties where both civilisations learnt from each other. He said historically both countries contributed more than 50 per cent to global GDP.ConclusionThis dialogue could prove to be important in improving India-China relations. The positive talks between PM Modi and President Xi Jinping indicate that both countries are committed to taking the relationship in a new direction through mutual cooperation and dialogue.
