Weather Update: North India is facing a severe cold wave these days. Due to snowfall in the hilly areas, the cold has intensified in the plains. According to the Meteorological Department, this trend of cold will continue even at the beginning of the New Year. The period of severe cold continues in the national capital Delhi.Temperature and fog conditions in DelhiAccording to the Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to be 15 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature 8 degrees Celsius on December 31. The sky will be clear, but the chill will increase due to the cold wave. Light to moderate fog may occur in the morning and night.The maximum temperature in Delhi on Monday was recorded 5.4 degrees below normal. However, the minimum temperature was slightly above normal at 10.3 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for cold wave in the capital.Cold also increased in Uttar Pradesh and BiharThere has been a sudden change in the weather in Uttar Pradesh, due to which the cold has increased. Chilly cold is felt even during the day. The Meteorological Department has predicted dry weather in the state till December 31, but the cold wave will continue.The effect of cold has started showing in Bihar as well. According to the Meteorological Center, Patna, there is a possibility of a sharp drop in day and night temperatures on December 31 and January 1.Severe cold in Haryana, Punjab and RajasthanThe cold wave in Haryana and Punjab has forced people to shiver. The maximum temperature in Chandigarh on Monday was 11.3 degrees Celsius, which was the coldest day of this season. The temperature is likely to drop further in the coming days.The effect of cold wave is also visible in many parts of Rajasthan. Cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Sikar are expected to have fog in the morning and cold during the day.Snowfall in hilly statesThe cold is at its peak due to snowfall in Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The temperature has reached minus in areas like Gulmarg and Pahalgam in Kashmir. The weather will be clear in Himachal Pradesh on January 1, but heavy snowfall is expected between January 2 and 5.Dense fog and cold expected on New YearDense fog is expected in Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and northeastern states including Delhi on New Year. Visibility will be low due to fog and cold wave, due to which passengers may face problems.Slight improvement in air qualityDespite the cold in Delhi, the air quality has improved slightly. However, the pollution level is still worrying. According to the Meteorological Department, air quality is expected to improve further with the cold in the coming days.In this period of severe cold, the administration has advised people to be cautious. Wear warm clothes while going out of the house and travel only if necessary.
