Chennai. Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister Ponmudi on Friday made a controversial statement saying that English as a language is more valuable than Hindi. A new controversy has started with his statement. He was addressing a convocation ceremony at Bharathiar University Coimbatore. Sharing the stage with Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi at the function, he questioned why Hindi should be learned while English is already being taught as an international language.

Higher Education Minister Ponmudi took a jibe that Hindi speakers are selling panipuri in Coimbatore. Ponmudi promised to implement the beneficial aspects of the National Education Policy 2020, but claimed that the state government was determined to implement only a two-language system. He said that Tamil Nadu has the best and advanced education system in India. Tamil students can learn any language. He said that Hindi speakers are doing small jobs or jobs like seva chakri, selling panipuri on the roadside. Now English is an international language, which is more valuable than Hindi.
