Weather Update / Delhi's weather will change, rain alert for many states including UP after Christmas

Weather Update: Due to fog in the morning in Delhi for the last few days, the cold is increasing in the city. On Sunday morning, there was light fog on the roads, which affected visibility. During this, the wind speed was up to 3 km per hour. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature on Sunday was expected to be 8 degrees Celsius and the maximum 24 degrees Celsius.

However, the weather may change on Monday. There are chances of cloudy sky and rain. Also, cold is likely to increase further due to cold winds. The minimum temperature may drop to 7 or 6 degrees Celsius. Fog may return again on Tuesday and Wednesday, due to which a dense fog alert has been issued on December 24. Drivers have been advised to drive safely and slowly.

Widespread impact in North India

Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir

Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh may receive light snowfall and rain between December 22 and 24. In this cold season, the attraction of tourism also increases in these areas.

Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh

A new western disturbance is expected to bring rain and hailstorms in the plains of northwest India from December 26. Thunderstorms and hailstorms are expected in Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on December 27 and 28.

Severe cold and 'Chillai-Kalan' in Kashmir

The cold has started showing its extreme form in Kashmir. The minimum temperature on Saturday reached minus 8.5 degrees Celsius. The coldest day of this month was recorded on December 13, when Srinagar recorded a temperature of minus 12.8 degrees Celsius. Lakes and reservoirs have frozen due to the severe cold, disrupting water supply.

'Chillai-Kalan' has begun, which is a period of severe cold lasting 40 days. Heavy snowfall is expected during this period. This cold weather will end on January 31, 2025, but before that the lifestyle in the Kashmir Valley is expected to change completely.

Precautions and Preparations

The possibility of road accidents increases due to fog in Delhi. Drivers have been advised to be extra cautious and drive slowly.

Tourists going to Himachal and Kashmir should make full preparations for safe travel during snowfall.

Farmers of hailstorm affected states should take appropriate steps to save their crops.

This winter season can prove to be challenging for North India not only in cold but in many ways. These natural changes can be faced with caution and preparation.
