Amavasya is of great importance in Hinduism because on this day a ray named Amavasya, the main ray of the sun's thousand rays, resides in the moon on this day. Moon is the lord of the mind. It is most helpful in boosting morale and getting the favor of ancestors. In both the new moon and full moon dates, the moon has a special effect on the earth, due to which both the body and mind of the living beings on the earth can become unhealthy and restless. To avoid this, there is a law to do charity, charity and fasting on both the new moon and full moon dates.

If Amavasya is on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, then in such a yoga, charity-virtue, Brahmin-food and fasting gives results similar to solar eclipse.

Worship method of ancestors on Amavasya

Worship of ancestors (Shraadh, Tarpan etc.) is the one who showers grace in the life of man, gives happiness-peace, wealth-prosperity and son-grandson. On Amavasya of every month and especially on Somvati Amavasya, ancestors should be worshiped for the happiness and peace of their family. For this, make Satiya (Swastik) from Roli in the ground at a pure place and then sprinkle water and Roli on it and offer flowers. Offer some sweets and dakshina and do namaskar. After this, after feeding a Brahmin couple, do tilak and send them away by giving dakshina. The ancestors are pleased by worshiping in this way. If there is no arrangement for Brahmin food, then donate rice, milk and sugar (pudding items) to Brahmins or poor people for the blessings of ancestors.

How does the food of Shraddha performed on Amavasya reach the ancestors?

Amavasya day is considered auspicious for ancestors. Therefore, the ancestors are pleased by performing Shradh on this date. But how do ancestors get the food of Shraddha? Let's know. The Moon is lower than the Sun; Therefore, donations, virtues and the vaporized portions of food (in steam) made on the earth get attracted by the rays of the sun and go to the moon (where the ancestors live). For this reason, a law has been made to perform Pitru Shradh on Amavasya.

Amavasya is a very auspicious date to express gratitude to ancestors.

According to the Naradvishnu Purana, the worship of ancestors, Brahmin food and cow donations performed on the new moon of twelve months are considered very virtuous. Vat-Savitri fast is observed on the Amavasya of Jyeshtha, which is going to give to the unbroken honey. In the month of Ashadha, Shravan and Bhadraprad, there is an inexhaustible result of performing Pitru Shradh, charity, home and worship of God.

On the Amavasya of Ashwin, performing Shradh-tarpan of ancestors in the river Ganges or in Gaya has more importance. On the new moon day of Kartik, one should worship lamp and Lakshmiji in the temple, house, river, garden, cowshed and market. On this day the horns of cows are painted and worshiped. Shradh should be performed in Margashirsh month also, but the Shradh performed on Amavasya in Paush, Magha and Falgun months and Brahmin-food is considered to give more fruit than the Shradh-Tarpan performed in Gaya.
