The central government has expanded the scope of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana to include senior citizens aged 70 years and above. Ayushman Card: The central government has taken an important step by expanding the scope of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). Now the elderly of 70 years and above can also become the beneficiaries of this scheme, irrespective of their income status. This change will provide the elderly with the facility to get free treatment of diseases in any hospital in the country, with a limit of up to Rs 5 lakh.

Process of making Ayushman card

The government has simplified the process of making Ayushman card for the elderly. Now the elderly will not have to visit any government office to make the card. For this, only some important documents will be required and this whole work can be done through mobile app. An order will be issued by the government regarding this process in a week. Along with this, the government is also going to start a comprehensive awareness campaign.

With the help of Aadhar card, the elderly will be able to get Ayushman card through mobile app. Through this card, they will be able to get treatment for serious diseases for free in any hospital in the country. According to government data, till June 30, 2024, 34.7 crore people of the country have got Ayushman cards made, and now the elderly will also get its benefits.

New card for the elderly

If a member of a family is already taking advantage of Ayushman Bharat Yojana and there is an elderly in that family, then now a new card will be made separately for that elderly. For this, registration will also have to be done afresh. Through the new card, the elderly will be able to get free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. Apart from this, even if the elderly are taking advantage of other health schemes of the Central Government, they can still register under Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Even those who have private health insurance can also avail benefits under this scheme.

Some states still out

Although this scheme is being implemented across the country, some states like Delhi, Odisha and West Bengal have not yet implemented the Ayushman scheme. The elderly in these states will not be able to get the benefits of this scheme yet.
