The Finance Ministry on Tuesday clarified that there was no ban on the entry of journalists within the Ministry premises. All such entry will now be permitted only with prior appointments, regardless of whether the journalist is accredited by the Press Information Bureau or not.

“This is to clarify that no ban is in place on the entry of media persons in Ministry of Finance, North Block,” the Ministry said in a statement. “However, a procedure has been put in place for facilitating and streamlining the entry of media persons [inside the Ministry].”

“Entry of media persons, including those holding PIB accredited card, will be on the basis of prior appointment,” the statement added. “No other restrictions have been imposed on their entry into Ministry of Finance, North Block."

Conventionally, journalists holding PIB accreditation have been allowed to enter most ministries. On Monday, however, reporters found that they were barred from entering without an appointment.

“These efforts are part of overall efforts being made by the Ministry to make reporting for media persons hassle-free and convenient,” the statement said.

The Ministry added that arrangements have been made for media persons outside the gate.
