Former Kerala Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy passed away in the early hours of Tuesday. His son Chandy Omman posted on Facebook informing about his father's death. Oomman wrote, 'Appa passed away.' Veteran Congress leader Oommen Chandy was undergoing treatment for cancer in Bengaluru. Kerala Congress President K Sudhakaran condoled the demise of the former Kerala Chief Minister.

Congress veteran and former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had last year set the record for being the longest-serving member of the state assembly. Chandy remained MLA continuously for the last 52 years.

Became CM for the first time at the age of 27

Oommen Chandy became MLA for the first time in 1970. Then his age was 27 years. He first became an MLA from Puthupalli assembly constituency in Kerala and after that his winning streak continued from this assembly. He remained invincible for 53 years.

Chief Minister of Kerala twice

Oommen Chandy won 11 consecutive elections since 1970. Congress leader Chandy was also the Chief Minister of Kerala twice. He first became the CM of Kerala in 2004. He was again made the Chief Minister of Kerala in 2011 for the second time. For the second time he remained the Chief Minister of Kerala till 2016.
