Delhi New CM Atishi: A new chapter has begun in Delhi politics. Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and current minister of Delhi government, Atishi has been elected as the leader of the legislative party by the party. The announcement was made on the day when former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced his resignation after coming out on bail from Tihar Jail. Atishi was elected as the new Chief Minister in the legislature party meeting held on Tuesday, which is a turning point in Delhi politics.

Aatishi's education and professional journey

Atishi was born on 8 June 1981 to Delhi University professor Vijay Singh and Tripta Wahi. She did her schooling from Springdale School on Pusa Road in Delhi. After this, she did BA in History from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. Atishi took her education to global standards and obtained a master's degree from Oxford University on a Chevening Scholarship. Later, she did a second degree from Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar.

Journey from teacher to politician

Before joining politics, Atishi worked for seven years in a small village in Madhya Pradesh and gained experience teaching history and English at Rishi Valley School in Andhra Pradesh. Her teaching background and contribution towards educational reforms have made her known to play a key role in the rejuvenation of educational institutions in Delhi.

Beginning and growth of political career

Atishi started her political journey with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2013. From July 2015 to April 2018, she worked as an advisor to Manish Sisodia. Despite contesting the Lok Sabha elections from East Delhi in 2019, she faced defeat against Gautam Gambhir. However, in the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, Atishi won the Kalkaji seat and became an MLA.

Chief Minister's workload and future plans

On March 9, 2023, Atishi took over as a minister in the Aam Aadmi Party government of Delhi for the first time. She had the responsibility of PWD (Public Works Department), Education and a total of 13 ministries. Atishi is considered a close associate of both Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia and is one of the vocal spokespersons of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Now, as the Chief Minister of Delhi, it is a challenging but promising tenure for Atishi. Her primary goal will be to fulfill the expectations of the citizens of Delhi and take the city's development forward.
