In a thrilling match of the 18th season of IPL, Gujarat defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 39 runs to win their sixth match. With this win, Titans have reached the top of the points table.

Every angle of Gujarat's innings was special

KKR's decision to bowl first after winning the toss at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata proved costly. Captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan made a brilliant start for Gujarat Titans. Both shared a 114-run partnership for the first wicket, in which Gill scored 90 and Sudarshan scored 52. Gill decorated his innings with the help of 10 fours and 3 sixes in 55 balls, while Sudarshan hit 6 fours and a six in 36 balls.

After the partnership between Gill and Sudarshan broke, Jos Butler came to the field and along with Gill scored runs quickly. Butler scored 41 runs with the help of 8 fours in 23 balls. In the end, Shahrukh Khan hit a six to take Gujarat to a score of 198/3.

Strong performance of bowlers, defeated KKR

Chasing the target of 199 runs, Kolkata's start was shaky. The team came under pressure due to the early wickets falling quickly. Captain Ajinkya Rahane definitely struggled and scored 50 runs in 36 balls, but he could not get any big partnership from the other end. Sunil Narine (17), Andre Russell (21), Rinku Singh (17) and Venkatesh Iyer (14) also could not play a big innings.

Gujarat's bowling lineup showed tremendous discipline. Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan took 2-2 wickets each. Along with this, Mohammad Siraj, Ishant Sharma, Washington Sundar and R Sai Kishore also broke the backbone of KKR's batting by taking one wicket each.

KKR loses despite Rahane's half-century

Rahane's half-century innings could not save Kolkata from defeat. In the end, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (27*) and Harshit Rana (1*) returned unbeaten, but the team could only score 159 runs in 20 overs.
