Haryana Election 2024 : Amidst the height of assembly election campaign in Haryana, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya today issued a notification to dissolve the assembly immediately after the recommendation of the state cabinet. Also, it has been said by the Raj Bhavan that Nayab Singh Saini will continue to hold the post of caretaker Chief Minister till the next government comes into existence in the state.
A day before this, the state cabinet had recommended this step to avoid calling the House before the expiry of the period of six months from the last meeting. According to the notification issued by the Haryana Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Governor Dattatreya dissolved the assembly with immediate effect using the powers given under Article 174 (2) (B) of the Constitution. Under Article 174 (2) (B) of the Constitution, the Governor has the right to dissolve the Legislative Assembly of the concerned state.
Why did the assembly have to be dissolvedEarlier, the state cabinet met Governor Bandaru Dattatreya on Wednesday and recommended dissolution of the assembly. A day after this, the Governor issued a notification related to dissolving the assembly.
Official sources associated with the state government told the reason behind the recommendation to dissolve the assembly that according to the constitutional rule, it is necessary to call a new session of the assembly before the end of the six-month period from the previous session, but now there will be no constitutional crisis due to this step.
Information released in Chandigarh said, “In the meeting of the state cabinet held on Wednesday evening, the proposal to dissolve the 14th Haryana Legislative Assembly was approved. The proposal will now be sent to Haryana Governor Dattatreya for approval. The term of the current assembly is ending on November 3.
The last session was called on March 13The dates for the election for the formation of the new assembly in Haryana have already been announced. Voting will be held here in a single phase i.e. on October 5. While the counting of votes will be done on October 8. Earlier, voting was to be held here on October 1 and the decision was to come on 5, but after the demand of the people, the dates of the election were changed.
The last session of the current Haryana Legislative Assembly was held on March 13. During this session, the new government of the state had to get a majority. After the resignation of Manohar Lal Khattar, the Nayab Singh Saini government formed in the state had won the trust vote. In this way, it became necessary to call the next session by today, Thursday i.e. 12 September.
Nayab Singh Saini took over as the Chief Minister in place of Manohar Lal in March. Khattar is now a Union Minister. Usually the monsoon session has been called in August. But on August 16 last month, the dates for the assembly elections were announced, after which the government did not call the next session.
