The procession from Agra reached Gorakhpur on 25 April, where after getting married according to the customs, the family came to Agra on the morning of 26 April after sending off the bride. The groom told the police that the bracelet opening ceremony was to be held on Wednesday. The bride was sleeping in her mother-in-law's room.

After 12 o'clock in the night, the bride locked the mother-in-law's room from outside. After this the groom was also closed. Then she ran away by climbing the wall of the courtyard. After some time the mother-in-law woke up and tried to open the door after not finding the bride in the room but it was locked from outside. When he called the son, his room was also closed. Seeing the bride going out of the colony gate at midnight, the watchman posted there got suspicious. He refused to open the gate. When he tried to question the bride, he threatened the watchman. After that she left from there.
