A total of 725 MPs cast their votes in the election, while more than 50 candidates did not cast their votes. More than 50 MPs did not cast their vote

Let us inform that about 93 percent of the MPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, voted for the Vice Presidential election, while more than 50 MPs did not exercise their franchise.

725 MPs cast their votes

Officials said that by the time the voting ended at 5 pm, 725 out of the total 780 MPs had cast their votes. Counting of votes started after the polling was over. Voting started at 10 am. The total number of members of the two houses of Parliament together is 788, out of which eight seats of the Upper House are currently vacant. In such a situation, 780 MPs were eligible to vote in the Vice Presidential election.

TMC stayed away from voting

The Trinamool Congress had already announced that it would abstain from voting. It has a total of 39 MPs in both the houses. In the Vice Presidential election, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate and former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar (71) was facing opposition joint candidate Margaret Alva (80).
