NEET UG Exam: The Supreme Court has rejected the petitions seeking cancellation and re-examination of the controversial NEET-UG 2024 exam. A bench of CJI D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra has said that the NEET exam will not be held again. Let us know what are the major grounds on which the court has given its verdict.

Future of lakhs of students

The court has kept in mind the future of more than 20 lakh students in its decision. The CJI said that tainted students can be separated from untainted students. If the investigation reveals an increase in the number of beneficiaries of the paper leak, action will be taken against such students even after counseling. Directing a fresh examination can have serious consequences, which will affect more than 24 lakh students appearing in this exam.

IIT Delhi report

In the case of marks given for two answers to a question in NEET exam, IIT Delhi says, the first option 'atoms are electrically neutral because they have equal number of positive and negative charges' is correct. The second option 'atoms of each element are stable and emit their own specific spectrum'. NTA had decided to give full 4 marks to those who chose either of the two options correctly. About 9 lakh candidates had chosen the first option. More than 4 lakh had chosen the second option.

CBI report

After hearing all the parties, the court said, the CBI report shows that the investigation is ongoing. The CBI has indicated that 155 students selected from the examination centers of Hazaribagh and Patna appear to be beneficiaries of fraud. The CBI investigation is not yet in the final stage, so this court had asked the Center in the previous order whether some trends about abnormality can be drawn from the results of 4750 centers in 571 cities.

IIT Madras report

In the NEET case, the IIT Madras report said that there was no large-scale PayPal leak in the NEET UG exam. IIT Madras had prepared a data analytics report at the behest of the Ministry of Education. In this, analysis was done for 1.4 lakh students appearing in the exam. The court has also examined the data kept on record by the NTA at this stage.

Record presented before the court

The Supreme Court said that at present there is no such material on record, looking at which it can be said that the result of the examination is affected or there has been a systematic violation of the sanctity of the examination. The data on record does not indicate a systematic leak of the paper. We have compared the results of the last three years. There is not enough evidence of flaw in the exam.

NTA conducts entrance examination for medical studies in government and private institutions across the country. On May 5 this year, 23.33 lakh students appeared for the examination at 4,750 centers in 571 cities. This also included 14 foreign cities. After the results were announced, questions were raised on NTA. Initially, the police of the concerned states took action in the matter. After this, the investigation of the case was handed over to the CBI. Now the Supreme Court has given its verdict.
