The Air Quality Index (AQI) here has reached 394, which puts it in the 'very poor' category. Due to the ever-increasing pollution, the local government has planned artificial rain to reduce the effect of fog.

Causes of pollution

The air pollution crisis in Lahore is mainly caused by burning of crop residues and industrial smoke. Due to this pollution, the residents here are facing many health problems. Local people are suffering from diseases like cough, difficulty in breathing, eye irritation and skin infection.

Artificial rain plan

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said in a press conference, "Yesterday Lahore was declared the most polluted city in the world. We have taken many measures to solve this problem and now we are planning artificial rain in the city." This step can prove to be helpful in reducing the pollution level.

Formation of special team

The Punjab government has formed an anti-smog team, which will visit pollution-affected areas. This team will make farmers aware of the dangers of burning crop residues and promote the use of super seeders. Apart from this, alternative methods for disposal of crop residues will also be discussed.

Environment Minister's appeal

Punjab Environment Minister Maryam Aurangzeb hoped to see the positive impact of the steps taken against pollution in the next eight to 10 years. She appealed to farmers to avoid burning crop residues, as it not only damages crops but also has a negative impact on the health of their children.

AQI figures

Lahore's AQI level has reached 395, making it the most polluted city globally. AQI is measured based on the concentration of various pollutants. The AQI levels are divided into the following categories:

0-50: Good
