The government of Tamil Nadu announced on Friday the two-week extension of the COVID19 lockdown, until August 23 with new restrictions in place. The previously announced government lockdown will be in place until 6 a.m. on August 9. More importantly, the government has said schools will resume classes from grades 9 to 12 starting May 19.

The government of Tamil Nadu announced on Friday the two-week extension of the COVID19 lockdown, until August 23 with new restrictions in place. The previously announced government lockdown will be in place until 6 a.m. on August 9. More importantly, the government has said schools will resume classes from grades 9 to 12 starting May 19. Karnataka also made a similar announcement. on July 6 and said schools would reopen from grade 10. 


Following a government decree published on Friday, the government has implemented a new set of restrictions: 


  • Religious sites will be closed on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. 


  • The government plans to reopen schools in grades 9-12 from September 1. Classes will operate with 50% of students following strict COVID19 protocols. 


  • With separate standard operating procedures (SOPs), nursing, medical, and related colleges will open on August 16. 

 

  • Finally, as COVID19 cases have increased slightly recently, the government has warned the public to follow all protocols and has warned shops and businesses to follow the SOP. 

 

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu recorded new COVID19 cases on 5 August 1997. Out of these, Chennai registered 196 cases, followed by Coimbatore which recorded 220 new cases, and Erodes registered 161 cases. new case. 33 new deaths were reported on Thursday.
