Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 / Lok Sabha Passes Waqf (Amendment) Bill After Long And Heated Debate

The Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday after 12 hours of discussion. 520 MPs participated in the voting. 288 MPs voted in favor, 232 voted against.

Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has named it Umeed (Unified Waqf Management Empowerment, Efficiency and Development). Now this bill will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha.

During the discussion, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi tore the bill. He said- The purpose of this bill is to humiliate Muslims. I tear the Waqf Bill like Gandhi.

During the discussion on the bill, Home Minister Amit Shah said- Non-Islamic will not come in Waqf. There is no such provision either. Minorities are being intimidated for vote bank.

Union Minority Affairs Minister Rijiju said- If we had not presented this amendment bill today, the building in which we are sitting could also be claimed to be a Waqf property. If Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government had not come to power, many other properties would also have been de-notified.

The Waqf Act was first made in 1954 after independence. At that time, a provision for the State Waqf Board was also made. After many amendments from that time, the Waqf Act was made in 1995. At that time no one said that it is unconstitutional. Today, when we are bringing the same bill after making amendments, you are saying that it is unconstitutional. You are misleading people by mentioning things which have nothing to do with, leaving everything else aside.

Kiren Rijiju said that in 2013, only a few days were left for the elections. On March 5, 2014, 123 prime properties were transferred to the Delhi Waqf Board. There were a few days left for the elections, you should have waited. You thought you would get votes, but you lost the election.

Shah said- Waqf bill is not for theft, but for the poor

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said- 'Waqf bill is not for theft, but for the poor. A member is saying that minorities will not accept it, what are you threatening brother. It is the law of Parliament, it will have to be accepted.'

He said- Not even a single non-Islamic will come in Waqf. There is no such provision. Minorities are being intimidated for vote bank. Waqf is an Arabic word. It means donation of property for religious purposes in the name of Allah. Donation is made only for that thing on which we have a right.

Akhilesh said- Rijiju should tell, how many villages did China settle in his state

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said that the minister is saying that the land of defense and railway belongs to India. I also believe this. Are the lands of defense and railway not being sold? A bigger issue than the Waqf land is the land on which China has settled its villages. This bill is being brought so that no one asks questions. The state from which the minister comes should at least tell how many villages China has settled.

DMK MP said- If the minister's speech matches the JPC report, I will resign

DMK MP A Raja said, Minister (Kiren Rijiju) has given a speech with great pride some time ago. I say with courage that tomorrow you should match the text of your speech with the JPC report. If it matches, I will resign from the membership of this House. They are making up a story that the Parliament should have been given to the Waqf Board.
