The Uttar Pradesh traffic police has slapped a fine of ~6,100 on the owner of the two-wheeler on which Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra travelled to retired IPS officer SR Darapuri’s residence in Lucknow as she and the driver rode the vehicle without helmet, a senior official said Sunday.

Confirming the development, SP (Traffic) Poornendu Singh said, “The scooter was driven dangerously, flouting several traffic rules. So a challan was issued to Dheeraj Gurjar.” In the challan, the traffic department has found a total of five violations. “The challan was issued for driving without helmet, violation of traffic rule, vehicle with faulty number plate, dangerous driving and driving without licence,” said the officer.

Congress leader Dheeraj Gurjar drove the two-wheeler and Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday evening, the party workers said.

Gurjar has been given 15 days to pay the fine.

Priyanka Gandhi had alleged she was manhandled by police personnel when she resisted their attempt to stop her from visiting Darapuri’s residence, who was arrested in connection with anti-CAA protests.
