Asian Games 2023: Two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen has assured India's first boxing medal at the Asian Games 2023 with an impressive win over Jordan's Hanan Nassar in the quarterfinals of the 50 kg category on Friday. The Indian boxer defeated her opponent by registering a win in the RSC (Referee Stop Contest) and reached the semi-finals of the competition. Apart from this, Zareen has also booked her quota for Paris Olympics 2024. That means she has also qualified for the Paris Olympics.How was the match?In the quarter-finals of the Asian Games, Zareen was aggressive from the start and won the first round with 53 seconds remaining in the three-minute round. He showered his punches on Nassar, due to which it was becoming difficult for Nassar to stand against the star boxer. The Jordanian boxer received three standing counts from the referee but officials had to stop the match due to Zareen's regular punches. The Indian star will now face Chuthamat Raksat in the semi-final match on October 1.Nikhat qualified for OlympicsWith this victory, Nikhat has also qualified for Paris Olympics. A semi-final finish will be enough for the world champion to clinch an Olympic quota. A total of 34 Olympic quotas are available for India for boxing at the Asian Games, of which 20 are for women boxers. Women boxers who reach the semi-finals of the 50 kg, 54 kg, 57 kg and 60 kg events receive quotas.India has won a total of 32 medals in the first six days of the Hangzhou Games. Shooting has been the biggest event for India so far and the sport has yielded 18 medals so far. India has won a total of eight gold medals in the Asian Games 2023. Out of which shooting has been successful in getting six gold medals. Rowing has also given eight medals to the country and some other sports are also in line to bring more glory to the country. India is currently at fourth position in the Asian Games medal table.
