The Union Minister said, we have now got Lithium in Jammu and Kashmir. If we can use this lithium ion, then we will be number one among the countries making electric vehicles at the global level. India has become the third largest vehicle market in the last year i.e. 2022 after China and America, leaving behind Japan.

Vehicle industry is worth 7.5 lakh crores

According to Gadkari, at present the country's vehicle industry is worth Rs 7.5 lakh crore. Apart from this, this sector has a significant contribution in the total GST revenue of the country. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has unearthed lithium, an essential mineral for the manufacturing of electric vehicles and solar panels, in Reasi district. Its estimated reserves are 59 lakh tonnes.

This metal is very rare

According to Jammu and Kashmir's Mining Secretary Amit Sharma, this lithium comes under the category of rare resource. It was not available in India earlier and we were 100 per cent dependent on its imports. He said, "According to the G3 (advance) analysis of GSI, excellent quality lithium is present in considerable quantity in the foothills of Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Salal village of Reasi."
