The rights to broadcast IPL 2023 on TV are with Star Sports Network. Therefore, all the matches of the Indian Premier League 2023 on TV will be telecast live on Star Sports channels. Jio Cinema's decision to make IPL free has forced Star to make 12 major matches, including the playoffs, available on its free-to-air (FTA) channel Star Utsav. This is being done at a time when India's pay-TV market is falling by 3% annually.

Jio can capture 60% of ad sales

This is the first time that IPL will be streamed on Viacom18's OTT platform JioCinema. It has acquired the digital rights of the tournament for Rs 23,758 crore.

According to Media Partners Asia projects, Star India's IPL 2023 ad sales will be around $200-220 million, while JioCinega's ad sales could reach $330-350 million. This will be the first time that digital ad revenue will cross TV ad revenue. Star has paid Rs 23,575 crore for the 5-year TV rights of IPL.

There will be 74 matches in 59 days

A total of 74 matches will be played between 10 teams in this 59-day tournament. Each team will play 14 matches, 7 at home and 7 away from the opposition team. There will be 70 league stage matches between 10 teams. After the league stage, the top-4 teams of the points table will qualify for the playoffs.
