New Delhi : The Supreme Court has given great relief to Navika Kumar, anchor of Times Now channel, in the controversy surrounding Nupur Sharma's remarks on Prophet Mohammad. The court has stayed any action against him till further orders. On Monday, a bench of Justice Krishna Murari and Justice Hima Kohli asked several states including Delhi, Bengal not to take any action on Navika's plea. During a debate on 'Times Now' TV on May 26, BJP spokesperson Nupur had made some remarks about Prophet Mohammad. Cases were registered against him on this and in some places cases were also filed against Navika.On July 19, the apex court had given similar relief to Nupur Sharma till August 10. Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for senior journalist Navika, argued that the one who was anchoring the show had not said anything objectionable during the debate on Gyanvapi Masjid. However, one participant said something to which the other replied. In fact, she (Navika) had "lit the fire" by saying that we have to follow the Constitution, he said. He said the woman (Nupur) who gave the statement had to face criticism in different FIRs.The petitioner is also facing litigation in several states. Advocate for Navika said that we have to face five or six FIRs in Kolkata alone. The first FIR was registered in Delhi. On July 1, the top court had made stern observations while refusing to entertain a similar plea by Nupur. The court had refused to grant him relief, saying his remarks had set the country on fire. Nupur Sharma has faced cases in Delhi, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir and other states.
