India / Police round up 200 assistant professors protesting against government in Ludhiana

Although the police were on the streets since morning. The police took some of the protesters to the Sarabha Nagar police station, while some of them were arrested at Punjabi Bhawan.

Punjab : Police arrested 200 assistant professors who were protesting against the government in Ludhiana. In fact, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who arrived for the flag hoisting on the completion of 75 years of independence, protested in Ludhiana on Monday. A large number of assistant professors and members of the Librarian Front were marching towards the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana to protest against the CM.

The police took some of the protesters to the Sarabha Nagar police station, while some of them were arrested at Punjabi Bhawan.

The protesters also had minor scuffles with the police personnel. The protesters were marching towards the Guru Nanak Stadium carrying black flags. Police stopped them near Guru Nanak Stadium. One of the protesters, Tajinder Kaur, alleged that the policemen also assaulted women.

Another protester Jodha Singh said that the government had canceled the appointments of 1158 assistant professors on August 8. They are trying to meet the Chief Minister against the orders, but he did not give them time. He said the protest would continue till the government withdraws the order.
