The Foreign Ministry has issued a statement saying that the matter is being closely monitored and all legal options are being considered. Along with providing legal aid to the victimized Indians, this issue will also be raised with the Qatari authorities.

Pakistan media had long ago claimed in a report that Qatar can give death sentence to Indian military officers. The Pakistani report claimed that the accused have been identified as working for India's intelligence agency, Search and Analysis Wing (RAW). They were allegedly caught while carrying out espionage activities in Qatar.

Ex-marine has been in prison for a year

The 8 former marines who have been sentenced by the Qatar court have been in prison for the last one year. India had appealed several times to show mercy on them and release them, but every time their bail plea was rejected. These former sailors have worked on Indian warships

In Qatar, all of them were working in Al Dahra Global Company, it is a private company which provides training to the Qatari army. All these 8 former marines were arrested a year ago, since then their mercy petitions are continuously being rejected.

Accused of spying for Israel

According to media reports, these former officers, who have worked in various positions in the Indian Navy, are accused of spying for Israel. The report claimed that the arrested officers provided details of Qatar's secret program to purchase advanced submarines from Italy. According to the report, the CEO of a private defense company and the head of Qatar's international military operations have also been arrested in the same case. All eight officers of the Indian Navy were also working in this company.
