Cricket Desk: India cricketer Deepak Chahar has enjoyed success for India as a bowler so far. But during the Sri Lanka tour earlier this year, he proved his credentials with the bat as well having done it numerous times in the domestic circuit. His batting heroics were on show once again in the third T20I against New Zealand at the jam-packed Eden Gardens on Sunday (November 21).After opting to bat first, India got off to a brilliant start but kept losing wickets at regular intervals once the opening stand was broken. But they were batting deep and by the time the last over of the innings began, despite losing seven wickets, they had Deepak Chahar and Axar Patel in the middle. Adam Milne was given the responsibility to deliver for the Kiwis. The final over started in a grand fashion for the home side with Chahar churning out 10 runs off three balls. But the blockbuster shot and the moment of the game came off the fourth delivery. Milne ran in and bowled a short ball but Deepak was ready to take it on.The batter rocked back and literally hit a tennis like forehand smash to send it over the long-on fielder for a huge 95-metre six. It was an absolutely stunning which got the crowd even more which had already witnessed some spectacular cricket. Deepak Chahar also received appreciation from the dressing room with the skipper Rohit Sharma also saluting him for playing the short ball for a six.India post 184 runs batting firstThanks to a brilliant 19-run over to end the innings, India managed to post 184 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Skipper Rohit led the way scoring 56 runs off 31 with five fours and three sixes while Ishan Kishan also played his part smashing six fours in his 29-run knock. Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Harshal Patel and Deepak Chahar played useful cameos then to propel the team’s score despite the spinners keeping a check in the middle overs.Stand-in captain Mitchell Santner was the best bowler for New Zealand returning with the figures of 3/27. Rest of the four bowlers picked up a wicket each as well but were expensive.
