After the recent devastating earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand, now a powerful earthquake has been recorded in Tonga.7.1 magnitude earthquake in TongaAccording to the US Geological Survey, a powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.1 struck about 100 kilometers (62 miles) northeast of the main island of Tonga on Monday morning. Due to this earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued for the Pacific island country.The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that dangerous waves could rise in coastal areas located within 300 kilometers (185 miles) from the epicenter. However, there have been no reports of any major damage or casualties so far.Tonga, an island country located in Polynesia, is made up of 171 islands and has a population of about 100,000. Its main island is Tonga Island, where most of the people reside. The country is located about 3,500 kilometers (2,000 miles) from the east coast of Australia.Earthquake wreaks havoc in Myanmar and ThailandBefore the earthquake in Tonga, a massive earthquake struck Myanmar and Thailand on Friday, causing massive devastation in both countries. Buildings collapsed, infrastructure was damaged and thousands of people lost their lives.According to the ruling junta in Myanmar, about 1,700 people have been confirmed dead so far from this earthquake, while 3,400 people are injured and about 300 people are missing.The effects of this earthquake were also seen in Thailand's capital Bangkok. According to city officials, the death toll in Bangkok has risen to 17. According to the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority, 32 people have been injured and 82 people are still missing. Most of these people were working in a 30-storey tower block under construction, which collapsed during the 7.7 magnitude earthquake.Earthquake tremors destroy buildings, damage roads and bridgesThe epicenter of Friday's earthquake was northwest of Sagaing city in central Myanmar, followed minutes later by a second tremor of 6.7 magnitude.
