Paris Paralympics 2024: On the seventh day of the Paris Paralympics, India's Sachin Khilari performed brilliantly in the men's shot put F46 category and won the silver medal. This was the first medal of the day and the first medal in shot put after 40 years in Indian Paralympic history. India got its first medal in this event in 1984.

34-year-old Sachin broke the Asian record by throwing a distance of 16.30 meters in his second attempt, which he had previously set at the World Para Athletics Championships 2024. With this performance, India's medal count has reached 21.

Greg Stewart of Canada won the gold medal, while Luka Bakovic of Croatia won the bronze medal. Athletes competing in the F46 category have weakness or lack of muscle in their hands, and have to compete standing.

Sachin Khilari, who won the gold medal at the Asian Para Games last year, became the third Indian athlete to win a medal in shot put. Earlier, Joginder Singh Bedi in 1984 and Deepa Malik in 2016 won medals in shot put.

This silver medal of Sachin is an important achievement for India and reflects the new heights of the country in Paralympic Games.

Won medal by breaking Asian record

The 34-year-old Khilari performed her best in her second attempt and broke her own Asian record of 16.30 meters. She made this record while winning the gold medal in the World Para-Athletics Championship held in Japan in May 2024. Khilari's silver medal is the 11th medal in para-athletics in the current Para Games. She also won the gold medal in the Asian Para Games held in China last year. The F46 category is for those athletes who have weakness in their hands, weak muscles or lack of movement of hands. In this, athletes compete standing.

Third medal in shot put

Sachin Khilari is only the third Indian athlete to win a medal in shot put in the history of Paralympics. Earlier, Joginder Singh Bedi won the bronze medal in 1984 and female athlete Deepa Malik won it in the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Now this third medal has come after 8 years.
