Supreme Court: Senior judge of the Supreme Court of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, has been appointed as the 51st Chief Justice of India (CJI). He was officially appointed to the post on Thursday. Justice Khanna will take oath on November 11, 2024, while the current CJI DY Chandrachud will retire from his post a day earlier, on November 10. DY Chandrachud took over as CJI on November 8, 2022 and his tenure lasted for one year. Justice Sanjiv Khanna's tenure as Chief Justice will be a little more than six months and he will retire on May 13, 2025 next year.Law Minister's announcement on social mediaThe country's Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal shared information about this historic appointment on the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter). He wrote, "Using the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President of the country, after consultation with the CJI, appoints Judge Sanjeev Khanna of the Supreme Court as the Chief Justice of the country with effect from November 11, 2024."
