Bangladesh Politics: Bangladesh Politics: Bangladesh Police has registered a case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 72 others for conspiring to overthrow the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus by waging a civil war. Officials and media gave information in this regard on Saturday.

A senior police official said, "Our Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has registered a case in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka for conspiring to overthrow the current government." The court took cognizance of the matter and directed the CID to start investigation on Thursday.

Evidence of online meeting

The CID registered the case based on information related to an online meeting held on December 19, 2024. According to the report, those involved in this meeting formed a platform called 'Joy Bangla Brigade' and discussed plans to bring Sheikh Hasina back to power through civil war. Citing the case, the government news agency 'BSS' said that the recording of the conversation between the leaders and activists present in the meeting made it clear that they had planned not to let the legitimate government rule peacefully.

Foreign support and participation in the meeting

According to the police, a total of 577 people from the country and abroad attended this meeting. The meeting was organized by Rabbi Alam, vice president of the American branch of the Awami League, who has been named as the second accused in the case. It has also come to light that support for Hasina's instructions was expressed in the meeting.

Students' revolt and allegations against Hasina

It is worth noting that on August 5 last year, Sheikh Hasina's 16-year-old Awami League government fell due to a violent mass revolt led by students. After this, 77-year-old Hasina secretly left Bangladesh and went to India. Since her removal from office, more than 100 cases have been registered against her, including mass murder and corruption.

Mohammad Yunus' government and the current situation

After Sheikh Hasina was ousted, Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus took over as the chief advisor of the interim government. There are different perceptions in the country about Yunus' government, but the period of political instability and allegations and counter-allegations continues.

The recent developments in Bangladesh have heated up the political atmosphere, and it will be important to see in the coming times in which direction the investigation of this case moves forward.
