There are signs of community spread of Omicron in Delhi. The Omicron form of Corona was also confirmed in people who did not have travel history. This has been detected in the study of the Department of Clinical Virology of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Science. This was the first such study in the country on Omicron.

New Delhi : There are signs of community spread of Omicron in Delhi. The Omicron form of Corona was also confirmed in people who did not have travel history. This has been detected in the study of the Department of Clinical Virology of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Science. This was the first such study in the country on Omicron.

The study was conducted between November 25 and December 23 last year. For which samples were taken from different five districts of Delhi for genome sequencing. The study showed community spread in about 60.9% of infected people. Of the 264 cases in this study, delta and other variants were found in 68.9 percent (182). While the Omicron form of Corona was confirmed in 31.06 percent (82).

The study also revealed that 50.61% of Omicron cases were asymptomatic. There was no need to hospitalize such infected people. Whereas in a total of 87.8 percent (72) cases, vaccination was completed completely. Around 39.1 per cent (32) had a history of traveling and coming in contact with them. Whereas 60.9 percent (50) showed community spread.

The community saw a daily increase of 1.8 percent to 54 percent of Omicron cases, according to the study. This was the first study in the country to find evidence of community spread of Omicron. In which there was an increase in infection and a decrease in the rate of hospitalization. According to the information received, 549 Omicron cases were confirmed in Delhi till 13 January.
