Sukhbir Singh Badal News: Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked. The incident took place at the entrance of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, where he was serving as a sevadar under religious punishment (tankhah). Sukhbir Badal narrowly escaped the attack, while people present on the spot caught the attacker.

How did the incident happen?

This incident of firing took place at around 9.30 am. A man named Narayan Singh Chaura suddenly took out a pistol and tried to shoot Sukhbir Badal, who was standing at the entrance of the Golden Temple. However, a person present there showed alertness and stopped him, due to which the bullet went up instead of hitting the target.

Identity and intention of the attacker

The attacker Narayan Singh Chaura has been found to be a worker of Dal Khalsa. Initial investigation has revealed that he was angry with Sukhbir Badal over sacrilege cases. Police said that Narayan was seen around the Golden Temple for the last two days and was possibly planning this attack.

Sukhbir Badal is serving religious punishment

Sukhbir Badal has started serving as a sevadar under the 'tankha' (religious punishment) pronounced by Sikh religious leaders. This was the second day of the tankha, when he was guarding the main gate of the Golden Temple wearing a blue uniform and sitting on a wheelchair. He is using a wheelchair due to a fracture in his leg.

Police response

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed the incident and said that the police was on alert and the attack attempt was foiled. The attacker has been arrested and his interrogation is going on. The police is now investigating whether Narayan Singh Chaudhary is connected to any big conspiracy network.

Other Akali leaders also played the role of sevadar

Along with Sukhbir Badal, Akali leaders like Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Bikram Singh Majithia, and Daljit Singh Cheema also served as sevadars in the Golden Temple under the tankha. Many of these leaders did tasks like washing utensils. Sukhbir Badal and Sukhdev Dhindsa had small boards hanging around their necks, on which they had apologised admitting their wrongdoings.

Religious and political significance of the incident

This incident has happened at a time when the Akali Dal and Sukhbir Badal are already facing criticism over the sacrilege cases. Accepting religious punishment was important for them from both religious and political point of view. This attack has made this episode more sensitive.

Conclusion

This attack on Sukhbir Badal has not only raised questions on the security system, but has also exposed the complexity of religious and political issues. This attack failed due to the vigilance of the police and the prudence of the common citizens, but the investigation related to it and the conspiracy behind it are yet to be revealed.
