Cricket / Team India name their third vice-captain in ongoing Test series against Australia

Team India today named their third vice-captain in the ongoing Test series against Australia. Rohit Sharma has been named vice-captain for the last two Tests. Ajinkya Rahane was the vice-captain for the first Test, while Cheteshwar Pujara was named vice-captain for the second Test after Rahane took over captaincy from Virat Kohli, who returned to India on paternity leave.

Cricket Desk: The BCCI has named star Indian batsman, Rohit Sharma as the vice-captain of team India for the last two Tests against Australia. Notably, Rohit didn’t travel along with team India to Australia after the conclusion of IPL 2020. He went to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore and completed his rehabilitation.

The NCA cleared him and he flew to Australia on December 15. Rohit Sharma joined the Indian team on December 29 and has been with the side doing the practice drills.  Virat and Rohit were reportedly not on good terms ever since the 2019 world cup and the rumours also enhanced when Virat complained about lack of clarity on Rohit’s fitness.

The BCCI announced the Indian Test side for the last two Tests against Australia. In the same, fast bowler T Natarajan made it to the Test squad as a replacement for Umesh Yadav. Another massive change that the team sheet had was Rohit Sharma’s name as the vice-captain of the Indian Cricket Team.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli led the side in the first Test at Adelaide. He flew back to India after the first Test as the BCCI granted him a paternal leave. Ajinkya Rahane led the Indian side in the second Test as the Men in Blue scaled a massive victory. The BCCI named Cheteshwar Pujara the vice-captain for the second Test. Now, Rohit Sharma has been named the vice-captain for the last two games.

India To Take On Australia In The Third Test In Sydney

Now, India and Australia will collide in the third Test from January 7 at Sydney. Star Indian opener, Rohit Sharma will join the side from the third Test. Australian opener David Warner will also join the side from the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy. T  Natarajan looks a definite addition to the side too.

The Ajinkya Rahane led team now looks to seem the favourites to win the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Rohit Sharma will now have a lot of responsibility on his shoulders after being named the vice-captain.
