Maharashtra Politics: The issue of seat sharing between Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress is becoming a big challenge for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra. According to sources, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) is demanding more seats in the Vidarbha region, which the Congress is reluctant to give. This tussle is not only limited to Vidarbha, but there is no consensus on seat sharing in Mumbai and Marathwada as well. Congress leaders say that they are not ready to give more seats to Shiv Sena (UBT), due to which tension is increasing within the alliance.

Shiv Sena (UBT)'s argument: 'We should also have a share'

Shiv Sena (UBT) says that they had given their traditional seats, like Ramtek and Amravati, to Congress in the last Lok Sabha elections, due to which Congress was successful in winning those seats. Now Shiv Sena wants that their party should get a chance to contest some seats in these areas in the assembly elections. They argue that it is necessary for them to contest elections in these areas to keep their party alive and strengthen their presence. Shiv Sena leaders believe that there is nothing wrong in this demand, and Congress should understand it.

Displeasure over Nana Patole's attitude

Another reason for Shiv Sena's (UBT) displeasure is the attitude of Congress leader Nana Patole. Shiv Sena believes that Nana Patole is not taking a flexible attitude on the issue of seat sharing. Senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has informed party chief Uddhav Thackeray about the current situation, and Thackeray has also given some instructions to Raut regarding the future strategy. There is a deep disagreement in the party on this issue, and Shiv Sena (UBT) is taking it seriously.

Preparations for talks with Rahul Gandhi

Maharashtra Congress leaders seem to be unsuccessful in taking a clear decision in this matter, which has increased discontent in Shiv Sena (UBT). Now Shiv Sena has decided to directly contact the central leadership of Congress. Sanjay Raut has already spoken to Congress national general secretary KC Venugopal and Maharashtra Congress in-charge Ramesh Chennithala. Now Shiv Sena (UBT) has decided that they will talk to Rahul Gandhi directly. In this connection, a phone conversation between Sanjay Raut and Rahul Gandhi is likely on Friday.

Challenge in alliance

It is clear that the issue of seat sharing is becoming a big challenge for the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance in Maharashtra. While on the one hand Shiv Sena (UBT) is serious about its political future, on the other hand Congress wants to avoid losing seats in its influential areas. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see what agreement is reached between Rahul Gandhi and Uddhav Thackeray on this issue, and how the unity of the alliance remains intact.
