Diwali 2024: This year, on the occasion of Diwali, business worth about Rs 4.25 lakh crore is expected across the country. As the festive season approaches, preparations are going on in full swing in Delhi and other parts of the country. Traders are working on various strategies to attract more and more customers, so that they can increase their business.

Festival boom

The crowd and sales during festivals like Raksha Bandhan, Navratri and Karva Chauth have raised hopes of good business during Diwali this year in the minds of traders. A turnover of about Rs 75,000 crore has been estimated in Delhi during this period. Praveen Khandelwal, General Secretary, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), said that the work of decorating shops according to the theme of Diwali is being done rapidly in Delhi and other metros as well as tier 2 and tier 3 cities, towns and villages.

Colorful lights, rangoli, and other decorative materials are being used in the markets to create a festive atmosphere. Traders have started stocking gift items, clothes, jewellery, electronics, mobile phones, decoration items, puja items, idols and pictures of gods and goddesses, toys, sweets, and consumer durables in view of the expectation of a surge in demand during this period.

Attractive offers and discounts

Traders are also considering various discounts and promotional offers to attract customers. CAT National President B.C. Bhartia said that traders can offer offers like "buy one, get one" or special Diwali discounts. Through these offers, traders would like to take advantage of the heavy rush of Diwali.

Security and order plans

In view of the rush during Diwali, traders have requested the police and local administration to make special arrangements for security and traffic control. Apart from this, the trade associations are also planning to deploy additional private security guards to ensure the safety of buyers and traders.

Competing with e-commerce

Praveen Khandelwal also said that the markets in Delhi and across India are all set for Diwali and they are actively implementing new strategies to face the challenges posed by e-commerce. They are all set to receive substantial business during this festive season.
