Elon Musk News: An unexpected and embarrassing scene unfolded at the White House last week that raised questions over the dignity of the US administration. The incident took place when Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was on an official visit to the US and was present in the West Wing of the White House with President Donald Trump.

Musk vs Bessant: A confrontation that shocked everyone

Tech billionaire Elon Musk and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant got into a heated debate over the leadership of the IRS (Internal Revenue Service). The debate got so heated that the two resorted to abusive language and personal attacks against each other. The confrontation was not merely ideological but turned into a dramatic showdown in public.

An eyewitness to the entire incident told Axios, “It was as if the West Wing was mistaken for a WWE arena.”

‘Soros agent’ vs ‘fuck you’

Musk called Bessant a ‘Soros agent’ based on his past of being associated with Soros Fund Management. Angered by this, Besant shouted abuses at Musk – “Fuck you.” Musk also retorted, “Say it louder.”

What started the debate?

This entire controversy actually started with Trump recently appointing Gary Shapley as the acting IRS commissioner. Musk was a supporter of Shapley, but Besant wanted to see his close aide and deputy Michael Faulkender in that position. After the debate, President Trump appointed Faulkender, which made it seem that Besant finally won this open debate.

Bessant's trust in Faulkender

The very next day of the incident, Scott Besant issued a statement saying,

“It is important to restore public trust in the IRS, and I believe that Michael Faulkender is the right person for this.”

However, he also praised Gary Shapley's thoughtfulness and dedication, saying that he will still remain his important senior advisor in the Treasury Department.

Questions on America's international image

This entire incident has given a blow to America's international image, especially when such an act took place in the presence of the Prime Minister of an allied nation. This kind of unethical and public debate at an institutional and diplomatic place like the White House has definitely raised the question whether harmony and dignity has been maintained in the top leadership of America?
