Coronavirus / Total lockdown to be imposed in 7 Assam districts including Jorhat from tomorrow

Assam government today announced that total lockdown will be imposed in seven districts from tomorrow till further notice. The districts are Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath and Morigaon. There will be a total ban on movement of all public and private transport. In districts with moderate COVID-19 positivity rate, the curfew will from 2 pm to 5 am.

Guwahati: With Assam reporting a high number of coronavirus cases, the state government on Tuesday declared a complete lockdown in seven districts starting July 7. The complete lockdown will remain in effect in these seven districts till further notice.

The seven districts include Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath and Morigaon.

As part of the measures announced, a round-the-clock curfew will remain in force in these seven districts. Commercial set-ups, restaurants, shops etc have been ordered shut.

Further, a ban on public and private transport has also been imposed. Inter-district movement has also been suspended.

As per the order issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority on July 6, the lockdown will come into force at 5 am on July 7 (Wednesday).

As per the SOPs announced, the seven districts are shown high positivity rates and there will be total containment in these districts. The districts will remain under 24-hour curfew starting tomorrow.

However, in districts where there is moderate positivity rate, the curfew will remain in force from 2 pm to 5 am. These include Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Nalbari, Baksa, Bajali, Kamrup, Darang, Nagaon, Hojai, Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Cachar, Karimganj and Karbi Anglong.

The curfew will be in force from 5 pm to 5 am in districts showing improvement in positivity rates. These districts include Dhubri, Kamrup(M), South Salman, Majuli, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Udalguri, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Charaideo and Hailakandi.

Further, public gathering has been banned in districts where total lockdown has been imposed. In other districts, up to 10 persons are allowed for marriages and funerals.

On Monday, Assam reported 2,640 new COVID-19 cases with 71 fatalities. The state now has a total of 5,19,834 cases and 4,683 deaths.
