Indian Cricket Team: While the IPL 2024 season is on the verge of ending, on the other hand the T20 World Cup is also on the verge of starting from next month. This means that there is no time to breathe for the players and cricket fans because tremendous action is going to continue. But amidst all this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is also holding its breath because it is searching for the next coach of Team India and currently it is not getting much success. Within just a few hours, two veterans have refused the job. A big reason for this is BCCI's favorite tournament IPL.The tenure of Team India's chief head coach Rahul Dravid will end with the T20 World Cup in June. In such a situation, the Indian Cricket Board had announced the search for his successor at the beginning of this month. The board also issued an advertisement for this a few days ago and May 27 is the last date for application. Although the board has given Dravid the option to apply again, he also does not seem ready for it.Ponting clearly refusedAccording to reports, BCCI had also contacted some big names of world cricket but it does not seem to be getting success. At present, the biggest name in this is that of former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who has clearly refused to become the coach of Team India. In the last few days, there were reports that the Indian Board had contacted some stalwarts including Ponting. Ponting admitted in an interview given to ICC that during the IPL, some people had contacted him and they had talked to him. Ponting told that these discussions were held to know his interest in becoming a coach.
Ponting further said that he would definitely like to become a full-time coach of a national team but at the moment it does not fit into his lifestyle and hence he cannot become the coach of Team India. Ponting, the coach of Delhi Capitals in IPL, said that there are many things in his life at the moment and he wants to spend time at home. Then Ponting emphasized on the most important thing and that is IPL. Ponting said that after becoming the coach of Team India, one cannot remain a coach in IPL, which is an important point. He said that staying with a team for 10-11 months does not fit his lifestyle at the moment.Flower is also happy with IPLIn the IPL itself, Royal Challengers Bangalore coach Andy Flower has also rejected this job. When former Zimbabwean legend Flower was asked about this after Bengaluru's defeat in the eliminator match, he made it clear that neither has he applied yet nor will he do so. Flower described coaching only in franchise tournaments as enough for him and said that he is happy with it.Recent reports had claimed that BCCI has approached veterans like Gautam Gambhir, Ricky Ponting, Stephen Fleming and Justin Langer for this role. Gambhir and Fleming have not said anything on this as of now but like Ponting, Justin Langer has also already refused. The special thing is that all these names are associated with different IPL teams as coaches/mentors.
