New Delhi: Budget air-carrier Indigo on Tuesday extended "heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation" to Union Minister of State for Finance Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad for providing primary medical assistance to a man aboard a flight.

In a much-lauded gesture, the MoS Finance rushed to the help of a co-passenger who took ill on an Indigo flight early on Monday.

Soon as the news made headline, the minister won praises from citizens for the quick response to aid a fellow air passenger, with adulation pouring on the social media.

Retweeting to one such praise on Twitter, Indigo wrote: "Our heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation towards MoS for ministering to his duties non-stop! @DrBhagwatKarad your voluntary support for helping out a fellow passenger is ever so inspiring."

According to reports, the incident happened on a Mumbai-bound IndiGo flight 6E171 from New Delhi in the early hours of Monday, around an hour after takeoff.

A co-passenger suddenly complained of giddiness and uneasiness, plus he was a patient of hypertension.

Karad immediately went to the help of the co-passenger after the airline crew appealed for any doctor aboard for help.

The senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader who is also a surgeon provided some primary medical assistance to the patient and administered an injection from the aircraft's med-kit.
