Acharya Ram Gopal Shukla told that the festival of Govardhan Puja has great importance in Sanatan Dharma. On this day devotees do special worship of Lord Shri Krishna, Govardhan Mountain and Mother Cow. Govardhan Puja is dedicated to Shri Krishna. Along with this, it is told that on this day devotees get blessings of God by worshiping the favorite cows of Lord Shri Krishna along with Govardhan Mountain.

When did Govardhan Puja start?

According to Hindu mythology, on this day Lord Krishna lifted Govardhan Mountain on his little finger to save the people of Vrindavan from the wrath of Lord Indra. After this, people started worshiping Lord Krishna along with worshiping Govardhan Mountain on this day. Also, Kanha was addressed with the names ‘Govardhandhari’ and ‘Girirdhari’.

Auspicious time of Govardhan Puja

According to Acharya Ram Gopal Shukla, the auspicious time for worship on Govardhan Puja (14 November) is from 6.43 am to 8.52 am. The total duration of puja will be 2 hours 9 minutes. At the same time, Shobhan Yoga and Anuradha Nakshatra are being formed on this day. Shobhan Yoga is on 14th November from morning to 1:07 pm. At the same time, Anuradha Nakshatra is from morning till 3.24 pm on 15th November.

How is Godhan Puja performed? govardhan puja method

For Govardhan Puja, Govardhan Parvat is made from cow dung in the courtyard of the house. It is decorated with flowers and lamps, offerings and fruits are offered. After the puja, Govardhan mountain is circled seven times with cow dung. It is believed that Lord Krishna is pleased by performing Govardhan Puja and feeding jaggery and gram to cows on this day.

Is Chhappan bhog made for Lord Krishna?

On the day of Govardhan Puja, fifty-six offerings are made to Lord Krishna. It is believed that Mother Yashoda used to feed child Shri Krishna eight times a day. Therefore, fifty-six types of dishes are prepared according to eight hours for seven days. Chhappan Bhog includes all types of dishes, sweet, spicy and sour. It includes rice, pulses, chutney, curry, sherbet, baati, murabba, mathri, sweets, khurma, kheer, butter, rabri, even mohan bhog.

Material

  • A cup of semolina
  • Half cup sugar
  • A cup of milk
  • Half cup ghee
  • Bay leaf
  • Cardamom powder
  • Katu and Raisins
Method

  • Put milk, sugar and cardamom powder in a vessel on flame and boil until the sugar dissolves.
  • Fry semolina in another pan until it turns golden.
  • Now mix boiled milk in semolina.
  • Cook on low flame.
  • Fry dry fruits in ghee and garnish with Mohan Bhog.
