Doval China Visit: India's National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is currently on a visit to Beijing, and this visit is considered very important to give a new direction to India-China relations. Doval's visit is taking place on the basis of the consensus of the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit held in Russia on October 24.

Emphasis on resolving border disputes

The main objective of this visit is to completely resolve the ongoing disputes on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and take concrete steps towards restoring trust between the two countries. According to government sources, this dialogue is being given special importance after the recent border agreements and the withdrawal of troops from Demchok and Depsang areas.

Doval will meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday. This meeting is taking place after almost five years, as the last formal talks between the special representatives of the two countries took place in December 2019.

Relations became tense after 2020

The dispute in the Galwan Valley in 2020 had badly affected India-China relations. However, several rounds of military and diplomatic talks have taken place since then. Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar recently said that 75% of the border dispute issues have been resolved and a complete solution can be expected soon.

Experts believe that the timing of Doval's visit is very important, as the two countries have recently agreed on an agreement to withdraw troops from Demchok and Depsang. Apart from this, coordinated patrolling has also started.

China's response

The Chinese Foreign Ministry welcomed Doval's visit and said that it is ready to work with India to bring bilateral relations back on track. Beijing emphasized the need to implement the consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries and strengthen mutual trust through dialogue and cooperation.

China also expressed its commitment to respect each other's "core interests" and major concerns and to resolve differences with sincerity and goodwill.

India's important role

India has already made it clear that returning to the situation of April 2020 would be the first step towards improving relations between the two countries. Apart from this, India's increasing role on forums like G20, BRICS, SCO and Quad has also put pressure on China.

Future expectations

Positive progress is expected in India-China relations from this visit of Doval. However, it will be interesting to see how much success is achieved in restoring trust between the two countries and permanent solution to the border dispute.

Both India and China are important countries from economic and regional point of view. In such a situation, improvement in mutual relations can be a positive sign not only for both the countries but for the whole of Asia and the world.
