IMD Weather Update: The havoc of winter is at its peak in most parts of the country. There is heavy snowfall in the hilly areas, while cold wave and dense fog in the plains have affected life. Winter has increased the melting in many areas of North India including Delhi-NCR. People are trying to protect themselves from the cold by lighting bonfires and wearing warm clothes.

Rain alert in Delhi-NCR

The Meteorological Department has warned of rain and lightning in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh. Light to moderate rain may occur in these areas in the coming days. According to the Meteorological Department, a thick blanket of fog will remain in many areas of North India for the next few days. At the same time, dense fog is also likely to persist in northern Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.

People troubled by cold wave

People have started shivering due to severe cold in many parts of North India. Due to dense fog in the morning and evening and cold wave during the day, people are forced to stay in their homes. Cold is especially affecting children and the elderly. Due to cold, holidays have been declared in many schools in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Cold will increase due to rain and snowfall

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy snowfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh in the next few days. On Sunday, light rain with thunder may occur in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. There is a possibility of rain and lightning in many areas on Monday as well. Heavy snowfall in many areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may further increase the cold.

Effect of fog on public life

The fog has had a bad effect on the traffic system. On Saturday, dense fog prevailed in many areas including Delhi, affecting flights and train services. More than 400 flights departed late at Delhi airport and the operation of many trains was also disrupted. Road traffic has also slowed down due to fog, causing a lot of trouble to the passengers.

Visibility status

According to the data of the Meteorological Department, the lowest visibility was recorded at 200 meters in Bahraich in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Aligarh in western Uttar Pradesh, Ludhiana and Halwara in Punjab. Visibility in Safdarjung in Delhi was 400 meters, while visibility up to 500 meters was recorded in Patna and Muzaffarpur.

Government preparations and alerts

The government has started taking necessary steps to deal with the problems caused by cold and fog. Bonfires are being arranged at public places and special arrangements are being made in night shelters for homeless people. The administration is appealing to the people to be alert and take necessary precautions.
