After forgiving Dev Indra, he told as a solution that Mother Ganga would have to be brought to earth somehow. After this, after the great penance of King Sagar's grandson Anshuman and King Bhagiratha, Maa Ganga appeared on earth. It is said that only after this, 60 thousand sons of King Sagar attained salvation. Since then the festival of Sankranti is celebrated every year.
