Nepal News: Recent heavy rains in Nepal and the floods and landslides triggered by it have caused widespread devastation, with the death toll rising to 122 as of Sunday. The disaster was triggered by torrential rains in eastern and central regions of Nepal since Friday, leaving many areas submerged and experiencing flash floods.

Kathmandu Valley: Worst affected area

Floods and landslides have badly affected the Kathmandu Valley, where 48 deaths have been confirmed so far. According to the Armed Police Force (APF), 64 people are still missing and 45 people have been injured across the country. The natural disaster has destroyed 195 houses and damaged eight bridges. However, security forces have acted swiftly and rescued about 3,100 people so far.

Nepal's most devastating flood in the last 45 years

Many eyewitnesses say that they have not seen such a devastating flood in the Kathmandu Valley in the last 40-45 years. Landslides and floods have not only caused loss of life but also widespread destruction in many parts of the country. On Saturday, a bus was hit by a landslide in Dhading district near Kathmandu, killing 19 people. Similarly, five people lost their lives when a house collapsed in Bhaktapur city.

Football players killed

Six football players of the 'All India Nepal Association' died in a massive landslide incident at a training center in Makawanpur, located in Nepal, while many others were swept away by flood waters.

Rows overflowing and rising water level pose a threat

According to Arun Bhakta Shrestha, a climate expert at the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), such a severe flood has never been seen in Kathmandu before. According to ICIMOD report, the water level of Kathmandu's Bagmati river was flowing above the danger mark after excessive rains on Friday and Saturday. This abnormal rain has been caused by low pressure conditions in the Bay of Bengal and the intensity of monsoon.

Role of climate change

Scientists have cited climate change as the main reason behind this disaster. They say that due to climate change, the amount and timing of rainfall in Asia is changing. As a result of this change, disasters like excessive rain and floods are increasing in Nepal.

Life paralyzed due to floods

Life has been badly affected due to floods and landslides in many parts of Nepal. Hundreds of houses and bridges have been washed away in the floods and thousands of people have been displaced. Traffic has been disrupted and thousands of travelers are stranded due to the closure of many major highways and roads.

This disaster is not only affecting the geographical structure of Nepal, but is also having a serious impact on the country's economy, infrastructure and daily lifestyle of the citizens. However, rescue operations are underway and the government and security forces are trying to control the situation.
