India-Saudi Relations / Indian Muslims relieved by India-Saudi friendship, the way to Mecca becomes easier

Hajj has now become more comfortable for Indian Muslims. The strengthening of India-Saudi relations has led to a historic increase in the Hajj quota, better arrangements and government intervention that brought relief to 10,000 stranded pilgrims. More concessions are expected from the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Modi.

India-Saudi Relations: Haj pilgrimage for Indian Muslims has now become simpler, safer and more organized than ever before. The credit for this is being given to the constantly strengthening relations between India and Saudi Arabia. Just before the proposed Saudi visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22-23 April, the historic increase in Haj quota, necessary concessions and better arrangements have given great relief to millions of pilgrims.

Historic increase in Haj quota: An example of trust

India's Haj quota in 2014 was 1,36,020, which has now increased to 1,75,025. This increase in this quota fixed by the Saudi government every year is a direct indication of the strength of India-Saudi relations. This is not just an increase in numbers, but also an expansion of trust and respect.

Government arrangements: Timely and accurate

This time the Haj Committee of India has completed all the arrangements for 1,22,518 pilgrims ahead of time. From flights to transportation to Mecca-Medina, accommodation, food arrangements – everything has been decided as per Saudi Arabia's guidelines. This dedication and preparation has presented India as an example in global religious management.

Strictness and transparency on private operators

In earlier years, about 800 private tour operators used to work, and complaints of irregularities were also common. But this time the government gave priority to transparency and accountability and approved only 26 selected combined group operators (CHGOs). Despite this, due to the negligence of some operators, the Haj pilgrimage of more than 10,000 Muslims was stuck – because the Saudi government banned entry after missing the deadline.

India's active diplomacy: A new dawn of hope

The Indian government immediately started high-level dialogue to resolve this crisis. On the active initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Saudi Arabia once again opened the portal and these 10,000 pilgrims were allowed to perform Haj. This is not just an administrative victory but also a major diplomatic success that has further elevated India's global credibility.

Modi's Saudi visit: More relief expected

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming Saudi visit is expected to bring more relief to Haj pilgrims. Whether it is ease in visa process, relaxation in local services or dedicated facilities for Indians in Mecca-Medina - this visit is likely to inject new energy into bilateral relations.
