Bahadurgarh: In a tragic development, three women farmers were killed while two others are critically injured after a speeding truck ran over them near the Tikri border in Haryana’s Bahadurgarh in the early hours of Thursday.The police said that the accident took place at Pakoda chowk while the women were waiting for an autorickshaw to head to the Bahadurgarh railway station.They were returning to their village in Mansa district of Punjab after take part in the farmers’ protest at the Tikri border against the Centre’s three contentious agriculture laws.The deceased have been identified as Chhinder Kaur (60), Amarjeet Kaur (58) and Gurmail Kaur (60). They hailed from Kheeva Dyaluwala village in Mansa. The injured were rushed to PGIMS Rohtak.The truck driver reportedly fled from the spot after the accident, the police said.“At 5.30am, 7 women protestors who were waiting on road for transport to go to railway station to board a train to Mansa, Punjab were hit by a truck which had lost control. 3 women died, 4 injured in the incident. The truck driver is absconding. We are talking to farmer leadersm,” Jhajjar SP said.Lakhs of women have been participating in the farmers’ protest on the outskirts of Delhi since late last year demanding complete withdrawl of the laws.Meanwhile, a group of farmers belonging to the Hind Mazdoor Kisan Samiti on Wednesday alleged that they were lathicharged by Delhi Police personnel in Narela when they were heading towards the Singhu border to demand justice for Lakhbir Singh, the individual who was lynched at the protest site for alleged sacrilege.The police claimed that the farmers’ association created ruckus near Singhu after some of their front cadre pushed around people.“When asked, they told us that they wanted to express sympathy and do a ‘havan’ for Lakhbir Singh, who got killed near the protest site at the Singhu border recently,” a senior police officer said, according to news agency PTI.
