VADODARA: A 52-year-old Covid-19 positive patient passed away in Vadodara early on Thursday.

Vadodara collector Shalini Agrawal confirmed the death of the male patient who was undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of state-run SSG Hospital.

This is the first death of Covid-19 positive patient in Vadodara. The Nizampura resident was the third patient who tested positive and was admitted to the isolation ward of SSG Hospital on March 19 after he developed symptoms on March 16.

He had travelled to Sri Lanka with a group of family members and friends. Of the nine who have tested positive in Vadodara so far, six belong to the same group which had travelled to Sri Lanka.

Four other family members of the deceased who had also tested positive are currently undergoing treatment at SSG Hospital. Two of them, however, have tested negative. They were the ones who had not travelled to Sri Lanka but had come in close contact with the travellers.

The 52-year-old deceased was already critical. He was on ventilator since more than a week, hospital sources said.
